soon i will get the new album "Out Loud"...Neo-zine: Tell us why you chose to call the band Naio Ssaion?
Naio Ssaion: When we were thinking about the name we knew that we didn’t want a typical Slovenian name. We wanted it to be “neutral”, so we made it up. Actually Mic did. It looked good, it sounded good and so we all agreed to become naio ssaion.
Neo-zine: Tell us about where you are from and how that effect your music?
Naio Ssaion: Slovenia, a member of an European Union is a country in between Italy, Austria, Hungary and Croatia. It is a small but still very beautiful country. We have the mountains – the Alps, karst, lowlands and the Mediterranean see. So as you can see there is a bit of everything combined. Naturally, roots are something that influence everybody no matter what they do in their life, so for sure there are some elements in our music that could be recognized as native. But as we all have musical education and in general great interest (obviously) in music our influences come from different kinds of music. Everybody in the band has of course slightly different priorities. I think that exactly this is the beauty of creating unique music.
Neo-zine: How would you explain your sound to those who have not heard your music?
Naio Ssaion: We mix different kinds of elements in our music, which is happening spontaneously. Our influences are various, 6 people with 6 different stories…from metal, new breed, pop, rock, punk and also traces of classical music and folk music.
But in general: Beside harder instrumental- that is building a solid ground and female vocal, we have electric violin, which is giving a special impact to the sound. But maybe most important is the fact that we build our music on live feeling, full of energy.
Neo-zine: What really separates your music from that of other people playing similar styles?
Naio Ssaion: Mostly two things: the unusual set up of the band and the style of music we create. Violin certainly makes the band sound different than others. And as said we use different elements where we always try to be original. Our music is being created in our own style, naio ssaion style.
