Buffalo Daughter is a Japanese rock band that emerged from the shibuya-kei movement, a style of music combining Japanese pop music with various
other elements in a sort of "cut and paste" style that some consider experimental or avante-garde.

Buffalo Daughter is a Japanese band notorious for having an eye and ear perpetually pointed toward the future. Buffalo Daughter's well-deserved reputation for being innovative and adventurous continues with the release of I, their first full-length album in three years.
The trio debuted in 1994 with Shaggy Headdressers, followed in 1995 by Amoeba Soundsystem. Legend of the Yellow Buffalo, a 7-inch released in 1998 on Grand Royal marked the band's acclaimed American debut. The Captain Vapour Athletes LP followed later that same year, and in 1997 Grand Royal issued Socks, Drugs & Rock 'N' Roll, a collection of material remixed by the likes of Alec Empire, Money Mark and U.N.K.L.E. In 1998, Buffalo Daughter returned with New Rock, a seminal album that promised just that - a pastiche of Kraftwerk, The Slits, Flying Lizards, The Beatles' White Album, and much more. A mini-album featuring remixes of songs from New Rock by Cornelius, Panda, and Buffalo Daughter entitled WXBD appeared in 1999.
