The group’s name might be Fair to Midland, but the musicianship found on this horribly titled (Inter.Funda.Stifle? Seriously?) album is anything but fair, marginal, or just midway decent. It is, in a word, incredible. Every twenty seconds, it seems you’re getting exposed to some new style, some inkling of a band you love, with a whole new take on it. None of the songs sound alike at all. There’s always a bit of aggression, but there’s always a killer chorus of sorts or some soft interlude to even it out. I’m not talking some catchy, sing-along chorus, I’m talking transcendent, epic, powerful choruses that nab the listener and refuse to let go, courtesy of the dynamic duo of Andrew Sudderth and Cliff Campbell. It’s rare, and always has been, to experience such an innate sense of melody and raw power between two vocalists. They feed off each other, complement each other, and drive each other to new, dizzying heights. Many bands have backing vocalists, but Fair to Midland put just about every one of them to shame. It’s truly breathtaking. And we haven’t even yet discussed the verses and the bridges and the…it’s just incredible. Mind-boggling, mind-blowing, superb. Words do not describe this album. Nor can they. To do this band any justice would require an in-depth, track-by-track dissection. And that’s for amateurs. Something this band would know absolutely nothing about. Every little piece they put together is crafted with only the best care and professionalism.

Truly one of the few bands that can state with conviction that they can play any style they want, Fair to Midland is one of the best new bands you’ve never heard. And that’s a shame. Make this statement false as soon as you possibly can.
